Günter Pieka was born in Brice, Slovakia, on January 24, 1920. Günter worked as a mill worker before his life was stolen by the Nazi regime. He was deported to Auschwitz on May 23, 1941 because of being gay. After that, he disappears from the record.
For the Auschwitz intake portraits in my project, I have chosen to present them with slate blue paper and two red bars—a solemn tribute to the lives erased in the camps.
